Pronouns: any/all. For self-reference, Anthem would use they/them, but they aren't picky and will respond to anything. They do, however, appreciate being asked first.
Racial Powers:
- Planar Resistance – A passive ability to resist a small amount of damage or other effect from Electricity powers. [Weak]
- Darkvision – Anthem can see perfectly well in natural darkness. Darkness created by a power or item, however, still affects them as normal.
- Sound of Silence - At will, Anthem can create an aura of complete silence [Power level: MODERATE] surrounding themself, meaning their actions make no noise unless acted upon by a stronger detection item or ability. This aura can be extended up to a radius of 5 feet, but by default only applies to Anthem unless otherwise stated.
- Flashbang - Anthem can conjure dazzling displays of light from their hands. These vary in strength from harmless sparkler-type light displays which may distract or entrance a viewer to [Power level: MODERATE] blinding flashes that cause the recipient to see spots or lose focus. These larger displays are accompanied by a sharp cracking sound and the smell of burning ozone.
- Acoustic Alchemy - Anthem has a MODERATE ability to manipulate the density of the air to either dampen or intensify sonic vibrations, allowing them to change the volume of sounds in their vicinity. Most often Anthem uses this ability to eavesdrop on conversations or to quiet the world around them when things get too overstimulating.
Character Description:
Anthem is an orphan from a tangential realm known as Arcanimas, but has lived in Rune since their early adolescence after running away from home. They live in the Artists' Lament district and make a living through street performance and occasional pickpocketing. Appearance-wise, Anthem is very attractive but dedicated to a precisely cultivated air of ambiguity. It is impossible to determine their biological gender designation, but it is also impossible to miss how well-dressed and classy they are. Seriously, how much time do they spend getting dressed in the morning?! (No one must know.) Anthem is of tallish-average human height (about 5'11") with a slender, graceful build and fair, somewhat angular features, as well as platinum blonde hair which is always elegantly swept back. Anthem's skin is also covered with subtle swirling white designs, a side effect of their planetouched sylph heritage, though these are hardly noticeable at first on their unnaturally pale skin. Anthem is unexpectedly light for their stature and, when they are visibly upset, they have a tendency to crackle with static electricity.
Personality:
Anthem is quiet and lonely by nature. They do not really (at this time) have anyone they would consider a close friend, but this doesn't mean they don't care about people very deeply. In general, it doesn't take long for Anthem to get emotionally invested in an person, especially one who shows them kindness, but it takes much, much longer for them to show enough emotional vulnerability to allow a genuine bond or relationship to form. Anthem is an intensely dedicated musician and has a background in parkour as well as pickpocketing, sleight of hand, and moral ambiguity. They have a profound sense of the greater good and is willing to blur the lines of right and wrong a bit to achieve it, never in the name of self-interest but always to protect or serve the needs of others they deem important. Comes across as intimidating, cool, collected, and confident, but is actually quite shy and reserved. Has an enormous respect for people who look out for each other and those who stand by what they believe in. A deeply good person with conflicting ideas of how to best serve that end goal.
Inventory:
- Master of Tides - a slender, pearly white conductor's baton with a midnight blue handle. Wave patterns in grey, jet black, and opal curl their way around the entirety of the baton. It grants the user STRONG control over natural water sources--such as oceans and rivers--and storms, specifically wind and rain. Though water cannot be created with this baton, it can be controlled in mass quantities, and though clouds cannot be generated out of nowhere, pre-existing weather can be whipped into a frenzy and rain can be drawn out of clouds that are already present. Aside from being controlled by the wielder of the baton, water and storms are otherwise mundane and offer no magical effects. However, the baton is extremely sensitive and requires a skilled conductor to be effective.
- Symphonic Sidearm - a slender, ebony-handled conductor's baton with a golden shaft inlaid with ruby filigree. It can fire off [Power level: STRONG] concussive blasts of sonic energy and, at will, can be used to cause deafening thunderclaps or cannon blasts of sound to ring out in the area. It blazes brightly when in use, causing a spectacular light show as it is waved around, and is capable of casting mild [Power level: LIGHT] electric discharges at enemies.
- Electric Violin with Case - An electric violin! Anthem is exceptionally good at playing it.
- Admiral's Affectations - an incredibly stylish powder blue seafarer's coat with crisply starched shoulders, full length tailored sleeves, hammered brass buttons, and fashionable tails. The wearer cannot be supernaturally compelled or persuaded to change their mind or their allegiance [Protection level: STRONG]. It also grants MODERATE protection against mundane physical attacks, with roughly the effectiveness of ring mail armor.
- Prosecutioner - A featherlight but deceptively strong rapier forged of a sky blue metal with silver accents. The blade glows [WPP] when pointed at a person who has knowingly done wrong. It is otherwise a normal rapier. [Power level: MODERATE]
