Name:
Gabriel Stern
Age:
108 (looks to be in his early 20's)
Race Name:
Lumenaren
Race Description: Hailing from the Fragmentum of Mazda- a collection of the shards of a shattered planet, the cities and people preserved through the power of Ahura, the planet's reigning deity- Lumenaren are an elf-like species, with dark skin, long, pointed ears, luminescent eyes, a metallic sheen to their hair, nails, and teeth, and dark metallic horns on their heads, the size and shape varying depending on the individual. They're commonly mistaken for tieflings because of their appearance (especially the horns), but the Lumenaren have no demonic taint in their blood.
Lumenaren culture is unusual, even by the wildly varied standards of the Fragmentum. Like all Mazdan species, they are powerfully magical by nature, which manifests in their race as the innate ability to see and communicate with the denizens of the Aetheric Plane- spirits, or souls of the departed, for example. Because of their closeness with the nature of the world beyond, Lumenaren culture is strongly based in the reverence of death and otherworldiness. Most of those who possess power beyond the race's innate traits practice a unique branch of necromancy, based around reverence for ancestors and those legends who have come before.
Lumenaren necromancers will typically only raise one or two constructs in their entire lifetimes, but the quality of those constructs are far beyond those of the typical zombie or skeleton. These constructs are known as the Revered Dead- those who had tremendous skills in life in one area or another, who volunteered upon death to be raised to fight again by the next generation. When raised, these beings manifest as shadowy, half-corporeal entities, sometimes inhabiting a body prepared for them, but generally remaining in the Aetheric Plane, observing and guarding their summoner from there.
Because of the reverence associated with the act of necromancy in Lumenaren society, there are many guidelines so as to not taint its use and shame the Revered Dead. The most significant of these taboos regards the raising of the dead against their wishes. Raising a soul without its consent is reviled among the Lumenaren, firstly because it wastes resources that could go toward raising one of the Revered Dead who've volunteered for the task, and secondly because to raise an unwilling specter is tantamount to raping that soul on a spiritual level. Anyone found guilty of raising an unwilling dead is subject to summary execution by the nearest presiding authority.
Racial Powers:
Speakers of the Dead- Lumenaren have the innate ability to see and communicate with spirits and the souls of the departed, to varying degrees. Rarely, some members can even exert a measure of control over them through voice alone. (Moderate)
Necromancy- The most commonly practiced magical art in Lumenaren society, though used differently than most. Lumenaren necromancy is centered around the raising of the Revered Dead, or the pacification or binding of restless souls and spirits. Going beyond these boundaries is taboo in Lumenaren culture. (Strong)
Ferrous Durability- You didn't think that metal sheen to their features was just for show, did you? Lumenaren physiology is inundated with metal, making their flesh and bone much more durable than your average humanoid. It won't stop a blade or a bullet completely, but it will take significantly less damage. (Weak)
Description of Character:
Character Personality:
Inventory: Revered Dead: The Schattenritter- Technically Starrk's Artifact, though in an unconventional sort of way- a Revered Dead, one so old that his name has been forgotten, and only the legend remains. In life, The Schattenritter was the founder of the Lumenaren culture, the creator of their unique branch of necromancy, and the society that arose from it. A master swordsman and powerful mage, The Schattenritter is Starrk's most powerful ally. He even possesses significantly more intelligence and autonomy than most Revered Dead, being able to work with Starrk in tactics and strategy, rather than just for him. (Epic)
